Final Project for Web 2.0 class

For our final project, the entire class will participate in making a Second Life “Exploratorium” about the book Groundswell by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff.  Each person is in charge of making a display about their assinged chapter from the book.  I am in charge of chapter 6: Talking with the Groundswell.  Each display must include the key points of the chapter, an example that is from the chapter or related to the chapter, and provide at least three links to that are related to the groundswell.  This should be interesting, as I just did a presentation about this in another class.

I think I just got ripped off in Second Life!!

409 Second Life dollars for what?

The Before

I paid 409 Second Life dollars for a new outfit from Soulphoniks Gortex. It included a full camouflage outfit, from head to toes. I picked this up at Atlantis City at the Soulphoniks Outlet.

Second Life-Adobe

Here is a picture of me in Adobe’s area on Second Life.

Adobe in Second Life is a place for Adobe to demostrate the uses of their software to second lifers.  The value of the game is in that adobe gets another medium to show off their stuff.

Second Life

I have dusted off my Second Life character, air15sheena Constantine,  in the name of Web 2.0 class.  It had been sometime since I was last in SecondLife, and unfortunately nothing has really changed.  However, the last time I was in Second Life, I got as far as the intro, and decided that it was not for me.  This time I headed over to ITWorld, and took a look some classwork.   second_life

I started playing with my outfits, and visiting different Isles, and in short spending entirely too much time on this.

Standout Jobs

Team StandOut has chosen StandoutJobs for the business model project.  StandoutJobs produces a Recruitment Communication Platform to help companies create powerful on-line recruiting campaigns that make the most of today web 2.0 technology.  The platform is a CRM for recurits, giving companies the abillity to find, target, engage, and track their perfect canidates.

The company’s first version(Recetion) of software as a service was launched in January of 2008, and they have since released the Recruitment Communication platform.

We will attempt to interview Benjamin Yoskovitz co-founder and CEO, as well as Austin Hill co-founder and Chairman.  Yoskovitz’s email is ben@standoutjobs.com, while Austin doesn’t have an email listed he is on twitter, and has a blog at http://www.billionswithzeroknowledge.com/.

Standout’s software is aimed at small to mid-level companies that cannot afford the same HR support that fortune 500 companies can.  That is a  huge potential customer base!

Dell stopped helping me , help you

Groundswell by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff offers a case study on Dell support fourms in chapter 8 (helping the groundswell support itself).  As a dell owner, I can say the fourms have saved me a few support chats, and I\’m sure a lot of hold time.  The case details how the fourms save Dell in support costs and allow Dell customers the opportunity to gain pschic income.

Many Dell customers used to depend on the fourms, however,  in 2008 Dell decided to upgrade the fourms without much custumer insight it seems, and now the fourms are essentially useless to many.  Dell has  recieved overwhelmingly negative feedback about the new fourm.  To date there are 67 pages of mostly negative response to a poll question about the new fourm.  Maybe Dell should do some listening in the groudswell.

Cellfire makes coupon clipping a thing of the past!

Cellfire allows coupon clipping customers to go digital in a few easy steps. The customer just signs up at www.cellfire.com, and downloads the mobile application. Cellfire then, allows the customer to search for deals in their area; the download is to their store card or to their mobile phone for direct scanning at the store. No more paper coupons.
This is free to the customer, just like the paper version, and Cellfire charges a fee to the companies featuring coupons.
I don’t use coupons right now, mainly because of the time it takes to search and clip them , only for me to forget them at the store. However I’m going to give Cellfire a try next grocery trip

Amazon blues

I ordered Web 2.0: A Strategy Guide: Business thinking and strategies behind successful
Web 2.0 implementations and The New Rules of Marketing and PR: How to Use News Releases, Blogs,Podcasting, Viral Marketing and Online Media to Reach Buyers Directly on January 24th from seller sbd-. I did standard delivery because I always do standard delivery. I almost always have my items within 7 business days.

However, I still don’t have my books, and according to Amazon I can’t get a refund until 2/21! I’ve ordered 4 other items in the mean time and received them. sbd- is getting no star

On a non-related note, Yelp.com will not allow me to post a review.

My Own Website

If I were to purchase a domain and set up my very own website Today, at this very moment, I have no idea what I would call my site, or what its content would be.  For now I looked a the top 20 web host solutions, and decided on InMotionHosting.  My first domain would be free, and 7.95 for each one after that.  The Power package which includes 6 domains, unlimited space  and all the great spec like being e- commerce ready.  24 months cost $280, and 5 years would cost $537.  I also took a close look at BlueHost, and GoDaddy.
